  1. Kahn and Averill shows at the abcd Convention

    August 31, 2015 by kahn_averill

Choral directors, singing teachers and singers descended on the RNCM for a great weekend of music making. Highlights included choirs from Russia, a great session and 70th birthday reception with well-known composer and conductor, John Rutter and Sing Spem! – a scratch session singing Thomas Tallis’s choral masterpiece, Spem in Alium published by Oxford University Press. This devotional work written in the 16th century has gained recent popularity being linked to the sado-masochistic interests of Christian Grey in the best-selling novel Fifty Shades of Grey – a far cry from Tallis’s original intention and pushing the 1985 recording by The Tallis Scholars to number one in the UK Classical Charts!
At the RNCM, great interest was shown in our books on Poulenc and his mélodies and our best seller over the weekend was Conductors in Conversation by Robert Chesterman. Next year the abcd Annual Convention will be held in Winchester.
